It’s December, the last month of this challenging year! Can we use our actions to tip our balances toward the positive and make some art progress this month?

New to the group? Don’t forget to read this intro. If you’d like, introduce yourself by sharing your name, location, what types of work you do and what you’d like to focus on this month. I look forward to learning more about you!

My story: I am Leigh Wells. I work mostly in collage, with some drawing, sculpture and textile work mixed in. At the start of the pandemic, I moved from San Francisco north to Marin. In trying to adapt my art practice and habits to this new world, I started this “residency” in September to help myself and began sharing it with others. The motivation and connection has been more valuable than I could have imagined! For December, I want to continue to regain my work focus, make lots of good and bad work, and set myself up to seek gallery representation next year. What about you?

What would you like to make or complete or get started before the end of the month? Is there anything you had hoped to do this year that got sidetracked that could be picked up again now?
My December:

  • re-engage with the idea of making a body of work for a show
  • work on a pdf format to send to galleries in Jan/Feb
  • read and take notes toward an improved artist statement
  • to continue: fabric works experimentation
  • to complete: plywood sculptures started before pandemic
  • daily habits: sketchbook, yoga and meditation

Today:

  • track time
  • one hour each on work areas above
  • sketchbook, yoga and meditation

Good luck today, everyone!
