day 03

(I’m going to try not to mention it. Don’t say it, Leigh. Don’t do it.)

Good morning, afternoon and evening friends!

Enjoying yesterday’s emails over coffee right now and look forward to responding to everyone individually over the next few days.

Each of us has a different combo of life responsibilities, parenting, paying work, etc. Maybe you have less time than you would like to make art. The pileup feels big. For me, it is helpful (but obviously not pleasing) that we are all challenged in our own ways right now. It’s global. Be gentle with yourself if you can.  Let me know what you are up to. Are you able to spend any time on art and/or quiet time for yourself today? Whether you can, or can’t, please experiment today with a break from self-criticism. Can we do it?

Here is another easy list:
Meditation
Coffee and collage (à la Alicia Morris)
Sketchbook planning for body of work.
Gesso plywood sculptures outdoors (which I didn’t do yesterday)
Listening: Caste : the origins of our discontents by Isabel Wilkerson
Reading: Faux Pas, Drawings and Essays by Amy Sillman (SO GOOD!)

THANK YOUTo those who have kicked in a little to help compensate for residency admin time. Very helpful emotionally and practically.
